Computerized Fluoroscopy- A form of ultra-low dose radiography, fluoroscopy has a much broader range of diagnostic capabilities than conventional x-rays. It provides an instant "real-time" image, which can be enlarged many times over to examine minute details and requires no developing solutions, which
are toxic to the environment.
Musculo-skeletal Echography- Better known as sonography, echography is radiation-free and can image soft tissues, which are unable to be visualized by conventional radiography.
Peripheral Vascular Analysis- Accurate measurement of pedal blood flow is essential in establishing a base line for the treatment of peripheral
vascular disease, diabetic ulcers, wound care, intermittent claudication,
Raynaud's disease, diabetic neuropathy, etc. We utilize state-of-the-art
Doppler/waveform analysis.
Homeopathic Injection Therapy- In an era dominated by the side effects and toxic load of pharmaceutical medicines, The Kornfeld Center specializes in the administration of safe, natural homeopathic medicines in injectable form.
These medicines enable us to selectively stimulate and support the essential
physiologic pathway(s) needed for a complete healing. Due to their natural
supportive properties, homeopathic medicines foster healing by enabling the
body to increase its efficiency in dealing with pathologic states, unlike
drugs, which are used to suppress natural body functions, invariably
interfering with the body's ability to heal itself.
Herbal & Nutritional Medicines- Nutrition plays a vital role in overall health and well-being. Our diet and lifestyle can sometimes be the cause of
our pathology. The Kornfeld Center analyzes our patients' diets; relates it
as to cause and effect; and educates and enables our patients to become
responsible so that their diet and lifestyle can be an important part of
their healing. By using herbs, essential nutrients, vitamins and minerals as
biologic response modifiers, we can ultimately achieve internal balance and
facilitate homeostasis. These natural medicines may also be employed to
facilitate healing of foot and ankle surgery or trauma. This has been a
highly overlooked part of medical protocols and one that we use to augment
our homeopathic injection regimes.
Laboratory Assisted Diagnosis- Due to the fact that so much of our lifestyle and diet affects our overall health, it is important to assess our physiology beyond the usual "medical" blood tests. Here at the Kornfeld Center, we
understand the intimate connection between nutrition, hormones, environmental
stressors, parasites, oxidant stress, drug toxicity, etc. and our foot and
ankle health (as well as our total health). Some of the tests routinely done
for our patients are: lipid peroxide levels (a measurement of oxidative
stress in our bodies); food sensitivity tests (an IgG 1&4 assay which can
help us understand how the food we eat may contribute to inflammation,
degeneration and inefficient immune systems); fatty acid assays (an
intracellular determination of essential fatty acid utilization which is
critically important in correcting diabetic and peripheral neuropathies and
certain skin diseases); vitamin and mineral assays (deficiency states often
relate back to the patient's main presenting symptoms as well as determining
if over consumption of supplements may be a causative factor in our patient's
pathology); cortisol levels (an adrenal stress hormone which can cripple our
immune systems and interfere with our body's ability to detoxify and repair
itself); growth hormone levels (insulin-like growth factor 1, the main
pituitary hormone responsible for mediating repair processes in the body,
which wanes with age and can be enhanced nutritionally if low); metabolic
function tests (urinalysis which can determine toxic overload, environmental
sensitivities, B-vitamin deficiencies, carbohydrate and fat metabolism,
energy production, and intestinal parasites). All of these tests often
uncover both the underlying cause of foot and ankle problems as well as the
reason for its chronicity.
Prolotherapy- Tendon, ligament and joint problems are a very common reason that patients seek podiatric care. Prolotherapy supplies us with a
conservative, natural approach to repairing torn, inflamed or weak connective
tissues. At The Kornfeld Center, we utilize injections of a naturally derived
form of calcium, which when used to bathe the involved tissues, induces a
proliferation of collagen in and around the area, thereby repairing and
strengthening the involved tendons, ligaments and joint tissues.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy- Diabetic ulcers, venous stasis ulcers, burns, open wounds, and chronic edema are among a few of the conditions well suited for hyperbaric oxygen therapy. A pulsed flow of medical grade oxygen in a
pressurized extremity chamber, this modality increases the oxygen saturation
of the tissues in dire need of a higher perfusion of blood, which the local
circulation is unable to provide. Utilizing a computerized, controlled flow
rate with a pulsed pressure, hyperbaric oxygen therapy delivers much needed
oxygen to facilitate tissue healing. It also improves the rate at which blood
can be returned to the heart through a sluggish venous system, with its
massaging pressure of 50mmHg, which inflates and deflates every 30 seconds.
Physical Therapy- Our physical therapy suite employs state-of-the-art hydrotherapy, therapeutic ultra-sound, and other supportive modalities which are used in conjunction with our broad armamentarium of medical protocols.
In-Office Surgery- In cases where conservative measures are not indicated or have proven unsuccessful, The Kornfeld Center's surgical suite is set up to deal with the majority of foot and ankle surgeries. We pride ourselves in the utilization of the most modern surgical equipment and procedures to achieve the most successful surgical results. Our affiliated anesthesia staff (M.D. anesthesiologists) is present to administer intra-venous sedation and to monitor all vital signs throughout the procedure(s), making your surgery safe and comfortable. However, in all cases of surgery, our holistic principles remain the same. In order to optimize healing, patients are evaluated pre-operatively so that we can achieve the best possible results on all of our surgeries. This may require changes to the diet, the use of supportive natural supplements and meditation techniques. Our commitment to our patients is not just performing the surgery as meticulously as possible, but to insure that our patients are in the best position to heal uneventfully.
Traditional Podiatric Medicine- A traditional approach to podiatric pathology may, at times, be the best initial approach to help get the patient back on the road to recovery. Prescription medication will be prescribed when it is
deemed the most prudent approach. Routine foot care, orthotics, shoe
therapy, strapping and padding and other traditional therapies are available
at the center.
